In the last 10 years, the use of ties has decreased considerably, since the relaxed and more casual style has taken over the wardrobes of many entrepreneurs, professionals and businessmen.

Even so, the tie continues to be one of the most common and popular accessories when it comes to dressing elegantly and providing a distinctive touch to a formal look.

Therefore, in today's post we are going to talk to you about the most well-known types of tie knots so that you can choose which one best suits your style.

THE MOST KNOWN TIE KNOTS

There are all kinds of them, we could almost say that there is a different knot model for each occasion. To define them, we will rely on their aesthetics, their symmetry, the difficulty of their execution and their size.

THE CLASSIC: THE AMERICAN TIE KNOT

This knot is the best known among all types of tie knots and is also the one with the greatest adaptability, because making it is simple and quick, becoming a guarantee of formality. Our recommendation is that you always do it in a way that allows the tie to reach more or less at waist level.

THE DOUBLE KNOT OR PRINCE ALBERT'S KNOT

This knot is very similar to the classic knot, the only thing that differentiates it is that it consists of a second loop to wrap it, giving it a more voluminous appearance. That is why it is advisable not to use a very thick tie to make this type of tie knot. You can combine it with long-necked shirts and if you are not very tall, this knot will surely leave a big mark on you.

THE FOUR IN HAND KNOT

Among the types of tie knots, the four-in-hand tie knot is one of the easiest to learn, since no special skill is needed to perform it correctly. It is a small and slightly asymmetrical tie knot, which makes it ideal for everyday use, going to the office or any event. We recommend that you use it with shirts with a narrow collar as this will look better than on a shirt with a wide collar.

THE WINDSOR TIE KNOT

This knot is named after the Duke of Windsor, but in reality it is nothing more than a Four in Hand knot made with wide, thick ties, which used to be made especially for him. It is characterized by its elegance and its solid and symmetrical triangular knot. Our advice for this type of tie knot is that you use it with a wide-collared shirt.

There is a variation of this knot, the Half Windsor, which has a smaller volume and is therefore easier to make.

FORMAL, FOR THE OFFICE OR CASUAL. ALL THE KEYS TO WEARING A TIE.

The use of a silk tie is best reserved almost exclusively for formal events. With a three-piece suit or morning suit for a ceremony. It doesn't mean that it shouldn't be used to go to a meeting or work, but there are ties that are more suitable for those situations. Silk will always allow us to tie a much finer knot and thus give the appearance of a more stylized neck. The navy blue tie in all its variants, combined with blue, white or white-collared shirts, is always a good option.

In the case of using a tie to work, whether in the office, in a meeting or at a work-related event and in which we do not find the festive element present, the choice should be a “dull” tie for this. There are different combinations in which silk is mixed with other elements such as wool, cashmere or cotton to give results that make the tie go more unnoticed. You can open the range of colors a little more in this type of ties, and although the geometric and vintage prints are the ones that stand out the most, the regimental ones are also a good choice. To combine them, nothing better than sports jackets in houndstooth or Prince of Wales or in flat colors with some structured fabric.

Lastly, knit ties. Especially with low temperatures, they become a great ally for the neck, since they also provide warmth. This type is ideal to wear with denim shirts, a combination that can be used on a daily basis, as it adapts to almost any situation. It is the most sporty way to show off this accessory and if we play with autumnal color ranges the result will be very cool. Nothing better for Friday's look if your work allows it.
